Climate catastrophe? The end of civilization as we know it? Cool It is based upon the book of the same name and lectures by Bjorn Lomborg, the controversial author of The Skeptical Environmentalist. Award-winning filmmaker Ondi Timoner travels the world with Lomborg exploring the real facts and true science of global warming and its impact.
The Green World Campaign works to reforest our planet, raise the living standards of the rural poor, and combat global climate change.
We plant trees to restore the ecology and economy of some of the world's poorest places. We help communities develop sustainable livelihoods, return barren soil to fertility, nurture biodiversity, and preserve cultural values. (GWC) connects those who want to help create a more sustainable world with on-the-ground projects that benefit people and planet. We focus on providing ecological and social benefits where they're most needed. We seek out effective grassroots partners, then finding the simplest, most direct ways we can all contribute to their success.
Why plant Trees?
-Tree planting creates ecologically and economically sustainable communities, lessens conflict over arable land and slows the pace of urban migration.
-We have cut down over half the trees on the planet. This has caused an unspeakable loss in biodiversity on the planet.
-Trees planted in the tropics grow 2 to 3 times faster.
-According to NASA and the Kyoto Protocol, 1 tree absorbs roughly 1 ton of CO2 over its life time. (The average American produces over 10 tons of CO2 per year.)
-Green World Campaign includes livelihood and technology programs whenever planting trees to ensure that residents can improve their standards of living while maintaining the forests.
Your tax-deductible donation goes to plant trees in environmentally damaged areas, creating sustainable villages, restoring indigenous ecologies, and mitigating our climate crisis. In addition to its own overseas field offices, the Green World Campaign donates to carefully vetted local tree-planting charities.

Love Thy Nature shows that a deeper connection with nature is the key to solving our environmental crisis. The by-product? It also makes us happier and more loving human beings. The film weaves a rational exploration-- using experts' interviews and narration– into an emotional journey. It immerses us in an awe-inspiring, sensual and poetic experience, awakening our reverence for the natural world.
A video giving a helpful look at the relationship between food production and climate change and hunger by experts and activists. How can we switch from heating the planet to healing it?
350.org is an international campaign that's building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions that science and justice demand.
Our mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis—to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for our planet.
Our focus is on the number 350--as in parts per million CO2. If we can't get below that, scientists say, the damage we're already seeing from global warming will continue and accelerate. But 350 is more than a number--it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.
We work hard to organize in a new way--everywhere at once. In October of 2009 we coordinated 5200 simultaneous rallies and demonstrations in 181 countries, what CNN called the 'most widespread day of political action in the planet's history.' This October we're organizing a 'global work party' all over the world. People will put up solar panels, dig community gardens--and send a strong message to our leaders: 'If we can get to work on solutions to the climate crisis, so can you.'
Our theory of change is simple: if an international grassroots movement holds our leaders accountable to the latest climate science, we can start the global transformation we so desperately need.
24 Presenters. 24 Time Zones. 13 Languages. 1 Message. 24 Hours of Reality is a worldwide event to broadcast the reality of the climate crisis. It will consist of a new multimedia presentation created by Al Gore and delivered once per hour for 24 hours, representing every time zone around the globe. Each hour people living with the reality of climate change will connect the dots between recent extreme weather events — including floods, droughts and storms — and the manmade pollution that is changing our climate. We will offer a round-the-clock, round-the-globe snapshot of the climate crisis in real time. The deniers may have millions of dollars to spend, but we have a powerful advantage. We have reality.
When is 24 Hours of Reality? 24 Hours of Reality will be broadcast live online from September 14 to 15, over 24 hours, representing 24 time zones and 13 languages.
Where is 24 Hours of Reality? From Tonga to Cape Verde, Mexico City to Alaska, Jakarta to London, people living with the impacts of climate change every day will tell their story. You can experience as much as you like without even leaving your home. Click here to find the location — or locations — where you would like to watch a presentation. Due to logistical considerations, three of the presentations will be broadcast remotely from New York — Tonga, the Solomon Islands and French Polynesia — but will include local footage and information. All other presentations will be filmed on location around the world.
IS 24 HOURS OF REALITY SUSTAINABLE?
We hope 24 Hours of Reality will inspire global action to solve the climate crisis. And that’s why we have also made every effort to reduce this event’s environmental impact. By using an online viewing portal, we are encouraging a worldwide audience to participate without incurring the carbon emissions associated with travel. We have implemented sustainable event standards which focus on the following key areas: transportation, waste diversion (through recycling and composting), sustainable procurement, production and materials, and green office techniques. By implementing these standards, 24 Hours of Reality will do all that it can to reduce its overall carbon footprint.
There are amazing activities going on all around the world for 10:10:10, but a special mention has to go out to the incredible events going on in The Netherlands. The country's biggest TV channel, VARA, will play host to a 90-minute 10:10 takeover.
What are you doing for Earth Day? Why not watch a film and learn more? Here are some recommendations from our editors. For ideas of other activities, check out the Earth Day website at http://www.earthday.org/
A Brief History of Fossil Fuels - Fossil fuels have powered human growth and ingenuity for centuries. Now that we're reaching the end of cheap and abundant oil and coal supplies, we're in for an exciting ride. While there's a real risk that we'll fall off a cliff, there's still time to control our transition to a post-carbon future.
