Projecting Change is a 5-day film festival featuring award-winning documentaries and exploring themes such as environmental and social sustainability, empowerment, identity, and global culture. Hosted in partnership with SFU Woodward's, the curated film and speakers sessions and unique festival format are a platform for audience engagement, inspiration, and action.

Wow, Earth Week was an amazing week for transformational media!  There were over 1000 community/home screenings of Do The Math, 350.orgs hot new film showing the dire need for climate change action! 

Many TV channels did a great job of bringing environmental films to their viewers including the broadcast premier of Chasing Ice on National Geographic Channel, the US broadcast premiere of Carbon Nation on Current TV, and a whole line up on the Documentary Channel including some of our AwareGuide favorites such as Bag It!, Save The Farm, and Cafeteria Man. 

carbon nation is a documentary movie about climate change SOLUTIONS. Even if you doubt the severity of the impact of climate change or just don't buy it at all, this is still a compelling and relevant film that illustrates how SOLUTIONS to climate change also address other social, economic and national security issues. You'll meet a host of entertaining and endearing characters along the way.

Do The Math is a sort of grassroots sequel to An Inconvenient Truth. In the first film, Gore makes the case that climate change is a future threat that we should be increasingly worried about. In the second, Bill McKibben shows the terrifying math of the existing climate crisis and fight the fossil fuel industry. The math goes like this: our leading scientists say that in order to limit global warming to below 2°C, a target that even the United States has agreed to meet, we can only emit another 565 gigatons of carbon dioxide. The terrifying part is that the fossil fuel industry has roughly 2795 gigatons of CO2 in their coal, oil and gas reserves,

The central Pacific nation of Kiribati is expected to be one of the first countries to disappear as a result of climate change. Sea level rise and increasing salinity are threatening the homes and lives of 105,000 residents spread over 33 atolls. One of the least developed countries in the world, Kiribati has contributed little to worldwide carbon emissions, yet has the most to lose from global warming.

THE HUNGRY TIDE shows clearly the tragic impact of climate change on Kiribati, and exposes the stark global inequalities driving the global warming phenomenon. The film personalizes the story by following the life and work of Maria Tiimon, who evolves to become one of the most prominent advocates for the rights of Pacific Islanders.

As we move into the Academy Awards, there is a lot of activity in the world of transformational media, with awards, film festivals, DVD and digital releases.
